Before actually describing each of them in details, I`ll explain why these eight models has been chosen:

  • Optimal price-quality rating

What I did was looking through several price categories and picking the best performing device in each of them.

  • Recommendations

While creating this top I had been consulting with experienced guys, who know a lot about choosing and using the microphones.

  • Personal opinion

I, myself, am not the least experienced person in the music industry as well. Therefore, I do understand how microphones work, how durable they are and whom they will be suitable for.

While rating the equipment I tried to be as objective as possible. I`ve chosen two of the most impressive advantages and one important disadvantage for each of the positions in the list. A studio recording test had been held as well. I described that as well.

Without further to do, let us get right to discussing the mics.

Shure GLXD14R/MX53

Shure is an American company that manufactures different music equipment. Our lists starts with Shure`s product – Headset Wireless Microphone System GLXD14R.

Main Features

I really wanted to choose more than two pros for this model, but I decided to stick to the plan. So:

This is clear, as the word “wireless” is even in the name of the product. However, I do really want to emphasize that feature. You do not understand how comfortable wireless devices are in comparison to wired until you work with both of them. But trust me, wireless ones are much more convenient.

What I mean here is that this recording system balances the voice frequency and clears the incoming sound by itself. It will save you much time if you are working alone.

Tip:However, there was one serious disadvantage:

Shure`s headset is working perfectly fine if the sound you are trying to record is the only sound in the studio. As soon as there are people talking, music playing, birds singing, etc. the clearing process stops working properly, resulting in dirty sound.

Studio Test Results

The device worked exactly as described above. There were two attempts to record:

  • In a silent atmosphere

The sound was nearly perfect. It was clean, loud and well-balanced. I am not a good singer, but I really enjoyed how my voice sounded.

  • In a busy atmosphere

It kinda felt like all the incoming sounds were mixed together. Usually, the recorded sounds sound separately, so that sound engineer is able to clear all the “garbage” later, but this is not the case.

Short Conclusion

This is a great sound recording device. Even with its` disadvantage, it is still the best in this price category. It will be a perfect choice if you have a silent place for recording sound. Otherwise, however, you may consider other options.

Pros
It is wireless
Automatized sound cleaning
Cons
Can`t handle much incoming sound

Audio Technica System 10 ATW-1101/H92-TH

Audio Technica is a Japanese manufacturer. Not the best known company in the World, but one of the most stable.

Main Features

This was the second system I tried. Here are the things I enjoyed the most about it:

Tip:This is the sound recording system similar to the first one, but smaller. The first thing I thought about when I saw it, is how good it would be in the small home studio. Aaaand it is wireless too!

This one is designed in a simple manner. All the incomes are signed, all the knobs are signed, an instruction is included. The process of recording sound is easy as well.

Tip:Despite these advantages, Audio Technica System is far from being perfect. Mainly due to:

I know a guy, who didn`t get any mic in the package at all. I was sorry for him until I actually got mine WITH the mic. I mean, it is still better than recording the sound with your phone, but far from being perfect.

Studio Test Results

So, two studio tests again. One with default mic, and one with the professional

  • Deafault microphone

First of all it was not comfortable. I have a casual head. The mic, however, was falling off all the time, didn`t want to sit in the ear properly. The sound itself was a bit below average, not what we are looking for.

  • A better microphone

All the other parts of the set are far above average though. The receiver works good. All the frequencies are clean, the sound is juicy and rich in tones.

Short Conclusion

This is not an expensive recording set, which consists of an awful microphone and perfect receiver and transmitter. So, if you already have a better a microphone, you can buy this set. If you are tight on budget though, I`d recommend to go for a cheaper, but more balanced set, as the microphone won`t let you unlock all the potential.

Pros
Compactness
Simplicity
Cons
Microphone included is bad

Audio-Technica PRO 8Hex

Yet another product from the Japanese manufacturer. Unlike the previous one PRO 8HEX is not a set, but a single item, that combines functions of headphones and microphone.

Main Features

Let us start with the positive sides:

This is literally a one-piece device, which you put on your head. Therefore, hands are always free for playing, say, musical instruments.

Tip:PRO 8HEX does not use much energy. It`s even more important, that up to 60 per cent of all energy consumed is directed right into the sound-recording element. This distribution results in extremely clean sounding.

Tip:However, the item has its` disadvantages as well.

There is no major disadvantage, which I could name, like bad sound quality. It`s the combination of small unpleasant inconveniences, that worsen the experience. First, the microphone is rather big, secondly, it is not the prettiest one, finally, it has some uncommon details, which it will be hard to find, in case you need to repair the set.

Studio Test Results

Well, there is not much to say. As I`ve stated earlier the price to quality ratio is great, but the sound itself isn`t the best you can get. It`s the best you can get for this money, but generally the quality is mediocre.

Short Conclusion

Audio Technica PRO 8HEX is good for the beginners. It doesn`t cost much, it allows to do all the recording by oneself, it can be used hands-free. Overall, it will be good for the first year or two, but in order to advance or develop, you`ll need to change it later.

Pros
Hands-free usage
Optimal energy distribution
Cons
Not comfortable to use

Shure WH20XLR

Shure is a manufacturer from America. WH20XLR is a headset mic, that I chose for this top.

Main Features

Here are my impressions:

The part you put over your head is soft and flexible. The microphone itself and durable.

I expected this microphone to be a fitness-oriented one. The one that coaches and sportsmen use to record their training-reports during the training. I was wrong. Sound quality is comparable to a cheap studio-singing microphone.

Tip:On the other hand though:

There is almost nothing you can adjust. It comes with the default set of settings and there is nothing you can change. Might be an advantage for a completely new person though.

Studio Test Results

The first thing I noticed was how comfortable it is to use this mic. It repeats the shape of your head and sits there like it`s a part of your body. Another nice thing is that the frequencies were better than I expected.

Short Conclusion

This is a microphone, that a completely new singer may want to use. There is literally nothing that can confuse. The sound recording quality is good enough for the first several years. Finally, if you decide to give up music, you`ll be able to use this microphone in everyday life.

Pros
It`s super comfortable
Nice sound quality
Cons
Lack of adjustability

Microdot 4016

Microdot is a partner of Audio Technica, that produces accessories. This exact product is a microphone.

Main Features

This microphone is sort of unusual:

All the body is made of steel, covered with some protective material. Manufacturers claim that it will be functioning even after acid is dropped on it. I didn`t test that (though I really wanted to try), but I tried throwing it in the wall, like some nervous singers do. It continued working indeed.

As this microphone is supposed to be used as a part of a set, it has tones of connecting plugs in the bundle. You can be sure, that whichever system you use, you`ll have no problems with connecting Microdot 4016 to it.

Tip:The downside though is:

The electrical insides of this microphone aren`t of the highest quality. My friend, who was using this model, said, that after three months and a little, a lot of feedback and unfiltered noises started appearing.

Studio Test Results

As my microphone was brand new, I didn`t have those problems. The sound was good, the filters were good, everything was good. I`ll update this article after a while to either prove my friend`s statement or decline it.

Short Conclusion

Microdot 4016 will be good for a beginner, who wants to start singing with the smallest amount of investment possible. This model is affordable, and by the time it will be probably start screwing up, the musician will be able to say, whether he wants to make it further in the music industry.

Pros
It`s really durable
A lot of flexibility
Cons
It will probably break

JK MIC-J 071S

JK is a small manufacturer, that works with Sennheiser. This microphone is supposed to be the part of the omnidirectional set (but can be connected to other systems as well).

Main Features

So, here are the good features:

Tip:Even the slightest delinquency can hurt the company`s reputation. Therefore, representatives of JK always respond. For example, another friend of mine had a JK microphone, which stopped functioning after seven months of working. He contacted the manager. In a week his new mic arrived with the letter of an apology.

This microphone is nothing but several wires and a small recording part. There will be no problems with storing it at home, which, I believe is important for the beginners with no studio.

Tip:It is still not perfect:

It is average. With all the compactness, it is impossible to place the elements of the higher quality inside. Therefore, don`t expect this microphone to sound professional.

Studio Test Results

The sound was loud enough, but it became scratchy after forty minutes or so. All the other parameters were OK, I guess, but you can probably find a better option for this money.

Short Conclusion

I still consider this model one of the best ones, as it has no analogues for travelling musicians. There is no other microphone for this money, which will be as compact and comfortable to use. So, if you are moving a lot, this element will be a great addition to your “pocket studio”.

Pros
The brand
Compactness
Cons
Sound quality

Pyle-Pro PMEM1

The cheapest item on the list. Had to be included though.

Main Features

Well, it, for sure, doesn`t have all the professional qualities, but there is definitely something I enjoyed.

Cheaper than a pack of cigarettes. Buying this model will not be a problem even for a teenager, who is thinking of recording.

Tip:Even despite there is nothing outstanding at all, this microphone is still working like it has to. The sound is being recorded, all the stuff is working correctly. Pyle pro PMEM1 comes with multiple connectors, so it can be used with almost any system or plugged directly in a computer.

Tip:You`ll not adjust things, you`ll not control frequencies, you`ll not be able to compare the cleanse and depth of sound to the other microphones. The best comparison to the quality of the sound this microphone provides is the sound you get while using an iPhone X for recording.

Studio Test Results

Not much to say. It was working and recording.

Short Conclusion

It is clearly not the microphone an advanced singer is looking for. It is the type of device, that will be suitable for someone, who has little money and a dream. Pyle-Pro PMEM1 will help with getting started, but won`t drive you further to success.

Pros
It is super affordable
It is fully functioning
Cons
It is not a professional microphone

Av-jefes Avl-630-sh4

AV-jefes is another product that is supposed to be a part of the set. Originally it is designed for matching Shure`s production.

Main Features

Here are the things I enjoyed:

There is no feedback, no noise, no scratching. The recorded sound sounds exactly as you expect it to.

Tip:It doesn`t seem to be convenient at the first sight, but while recording it turned out to be a really comfortable one. All the wires and parts are long and flexible enough, the microphone itself looks pretty, so recording process feels good.

Tip:A common problem for the microphones of the lower price basket. After several months you`ll start feeling that sound is getting distorted, some noises appear and other generic cheap mics` problems.

Studio Test Results

I`ve had this microphone myself for a while, so I can provide a bit more detailed information on this one. During the first two months it had been working perfectly, with beautiful sound an all, even though I wasn`t using it with shure`s set. After that a slight feedback started appearing on the higher loudness. For now it`s been ten months, and there are no problems other than that.

Short Conclusion

This is a decent microphone, which will serve you for a year at least.

Pros
Nice and clean sound
Convenience of the process
текст
Cons
It is not durable

General Conclusion

These were the best microphones for the beginners. I would like to finish this article with some general recommendations:

  • Don`t buy expensive equipment as your first one

It will have better quality, but you may also find out, that you have no wish to occupy yourself with music anymore. So, buy something cheap first, just to decide whether you really wat to be a musician.

  • Try fresh brands

New companies have to make product of high quality to be able to compete with the famous manufacturers. Therefore, the chances are nice, you`ll get a great item for a lower price.

This was it for this article. Thank you for reading and good luck with your music intentions!
