John “Jubu” Smith – American songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Originally get along with guitar, bass, drums, trumpet, starting his career in the early 1990’s, with a guitar play for the band “Tony! Toni! Toné!”. Since that time, he gathered up a huge solo material as well as continue as a session player in various groups like Luther Vandross, Mary J. Blige, Angie Stone, Deborah Cox, Boyz II Men, CeCe Winans, Whitney Houston, Hootie & The Blowfish, Alicia Keys, Toni Braxton, Chaka Khan, and Rahsaan Patterson, among others.

For 41 year out of his 45 years singing life, he was all the way sidemen in the shows harmony vocalist, just like in the beginning when he participated in his father quartet, before adding bass, then guitar, to his responsibilities in the group. Later in 19 years, he started with guitar playing for the Oakland R&B band “Tony! Toni! Toné!”, whose frontman, Raphael Saadiq, he’d known since both were kids playing on the local quartet circuit.
