The market of the guitar speakers isn`t that wide. There are six products, but only three manufacturers. Let us take a closer look at each of them:

  • Eminence Speaker

Eminence Speaker is an American company. It was founded in 1966. Its` chief office is in Kentucky. This manufacturer specializes exactly on manufacturing different speakers, like guitar ones, bass ones, and pro audio ones. Eminence has the biggest variety of products, so its` production legitimately occupies three out of six positions.

  • Jensen Loudspeakers

Jensen Loudspeakers is an American company with the longest history in this list. It was founed in 1927 nd was making speakers and amplifiers for army. After the World War II was over, such companies as Fender and Gibson started growing and Jensen had already been there to sign contracts with them. A long history and huge experience of the best companies are the best advantages of Jensen.

  • Celestion

Celestion is a British gigantic speaker manufacturer. It started working in the early thirties and had been making speakers for radios and army first. Unlike Jensen it didn`t work much with other huge companies, but had been employing talented engineers, so ended up being one of the best speaker manufacture in Europe.

Eminence Patriot Ragin Cajun

Ragin Cajun belongs to the speakers, which deliver more powerful sound, that you expect them to.

Main Features

Whether you play high notes (above C6), low ones (below C2) or stay in the middle, Ragin Cajun delivers equally good and powerful sound. Mids are balanced and warm, while highs are more crispy and aggressive.

Tip:Another thing is that this speaker is extremely versatile in terms of genre. It is equally good for calm blues, aggressive rock and light indie music.

Ragin Cajun requires certain equipment to show the full power. For exSpeakerle, there were reports, that this speaker is not working good with Fender`s items. This has not been proved though.

The Speaker in Action

Well, in my personal case, there was nothing wrong with the performance. I used Gibson`s cabinet and Gibson`s guitar, everything was working perfectly, exactly as I described in advantages. Highs were good enough for a rock`n`roll solo.

Short Conclusion

Eminence Patriot Ragin Cajun is performing great. It provides all the necessary things as versatility and high sound quality. However, there might be a problem with Fender`s cabinet. The speaker is suitable for both the beginners and advanced players.

Pros
Nice highs and lows
Versatility
Cons
Bad performance in certain sets

Eminence Red Fang

Previous model was an exSpeakerle of a universal speaker. This one is vintage.

Main Features

This is easily the best speaker, for making the sound gritty and vintage. It uses an old-styled British Speakerlifier, which is providing the same sound, the Speakerlifiers were providing in 40s-50s.

The lows were surprisingly good too. Highs and mids are OK as well, but lows are emphasized, fat and warm.

Tip:This quality makes an Speakerlifier especially good for rock, surf rock and calm deep genres like blues and jazz.

Not so much time ago (the article is written in 2018) Eminence moved part of its` factories to China, which has lowered the quality of details. I am not even being skeptical, this is a proved fact, many people report the same problem. So, if you have a possibility to visit several shops, look for the earlier model, which was assembled in other countries.

The Speaker in Action

I was lucky, that a friend of mine, who is a bluesman joined me while testing this speaker. We played an improvised duo of a guitar and a trumpet. It didn`t sound professional (lack of practice from both of us mainly), but this speaker helped to create a unique vintage atmosphere.

Short Conclusion

This is a good and compact speaker, which will work equally nicely with different types of equipment. It has rich low notes and overall vintage sounding, which is good for performing such genres as blues, jazz and surf rock. However, it is not the best option for metal and other heavy aggressive types of music.

Pros
Gritty vintage sound
Powerful lows
Cons
Durability

Celestion G10

G10 is the only Celestion`s product in the list. It`s here for being the best option for acoustic players.

Main Features

Even the people who do not know anything about music notice, how clean and powerful bass sounds. The major problem, which is common for budget speakers is that bass gets boomy and dirty. G10 does not have this problem though, so it is really good for all the acoustic performers.

What else is good for acoustic players are warm tones, which do not conflict with the actual original sound.

Tip:This combination is working especially great in folk music, country music and jazz.

In order to make this speaker work properly with the other cabinets and instruments, a lot of adjustments need to be made. The factory set of options doesn`t give the sound described above, in fact, this thing sound quite average out of the box.

The Speaker in Action

Although I indeed needed to adjust my cabinet and amplifier, the final result was totally worth the struggle. When adjusted properly, this speaker is showing the high quality and unbelievably deep low tones. I, as an experienced musician, can say that this speaker is perfect for small performances, where a guy sings his own songs in front of a small public.

Short Conclusion

Although this is an affordable amplifier, which has a lot of positive sides, it will not be suitable for the beginners, who are not certain about the genre yet. There are definitely better options for fast players and for those, who love experimenting a lot.

Pros
Clean bass
Super warm tones
Cons
Requires lots of adjustment

Jensen Vintage C10R

Long story short, this is the best one for the beginners.

Main Features

The highs and mids sound equally good, while low is always a bit flat and mellow. This combination of qualities is quite balanced and is suitable for all the genres. It will good for both fast and aggressive music, as well as slow and deep.

Tip:Moreover, the size of magnet part of the speaker had been reduced, so it is small even in comparison to other 10 inch speakers. This fact means, that transporting and handling this speaker will be easy.

This speaker can have some troubles with distortion and compression. When it comes to regulating these parameters, Jensen C10R starts misperforming. Well, this is understandable, and doesn`t matter that much in the beginning of the career.

The Speaker in Action

It was working fine right out of the box. The factory settings were all right. I combined this speaker with a cheap cabinet, for simulating the budget studio, like the one the beginner might have. The sound quality was decent, I started playing the guitar in much worse conditions.

Short Conclusion

This speaker will help you get started and will be there with you, until you feel as a skilled player. It has all the necessary qualities for the start and enough potential for developing the talent. However, there are better options, if you`ve already decided which genre of music you`d like to play.

Pros
Balanced sound
Compactness
The value
Cons
Effect qualities

Jensen Vintage P10R8

Another example of how one company can make two completely different devices.

Main Features

I can name this speaker the most flexible one in the list. It can be used with different cabinets and instruments and continue showing the same level of quality. There are multiple versions available, with different levels of required power supply.

Aside from that, the most recognizable feature of this speaker is how smoothly it transfers the compression, making the amplification even stronger without generally adding any side noises to the sound.

Tip:This results in an overall clear sound. It sounds especially vintage-like, when the guitar is played slowly, with light touches. When the player starts jamming though, nothing bad happens.

The pedals, which make the sound dirty on purpose will nor show their best in combination with this speaker. They make the sound muggy and flat instead of actually distorting or overdriving it. This is explained by the specific vintage build, which is created for smooth and deep sound.

The Speaker in Action

The performance of Jensen Vintage was exactly what I expected and what I described above. It worked nicely in each of three cabinets I managed to find for test. It provided clean compression and oldschool pattern of sound with some grit.

Short Conclusion

I would say, that this speaker will be good for you, if you`ve already decided what genre you would like to play, but haven`t settled the studio yet. It`s an affordable model, so you can but it in advance and then distribute the rest of budget among the amps, mics and other stuff.

Pros
Versatility
Smooth compression
Clear vintage sound
Cons
Works bad with distortion pedals
Works bad with overdrive pedals

Eminence Signature Series GA10-SC64

It is sort of a classical Eminence product, that comes as a part of signed series.

Main Features

Signed first of all means, that a professional took part in developing this item. In this specific case it was George Alessandro, a well-known engineer, often referred to as a guru of amplifiers.

Well, Alessandro`s job here explains why he has such a nickname. GA10-SC64 is a speaker, that provides clean, clear, bright and loud sound. It continues working decently in combination with different pedals and monitors as well.

Tip:Partly, because all the tones are balanced fairly, none of them is better than the other and they all perform great in general. The highs, the lows and the mids provide nice balanced volume.

This model, as many others, was transferred to China`s factories, where they have details with lower qualities in comparison to Europe and North America. I haven`t met many complains about the durability though, which makes me think, they invested enough money into developing an item of limited series.

The Speaker in Action

While this speaker is good in general, I didn`t notice any bright individual feature. It does all the job properly, but feels a bit soulless. Well, maybe it`s just me getting old.

Short Conclusion

Eminence GA10-SC64 is one of the best speakers on the market. It has the highest rating of reviews and acts properly during the playing session. A good choice for all the players who love experimenting with sound and equipment.

Pros
Designed by a pro
Provides outstanding sound
Balanced tones
Cons
Quality of assembling

General Conclusion

I usually leave some recommendations here, but speakers do not have many individual features and do not matter that much honestly. So, I`ll give one technical piece of advice instead:

  • Make sure the speaker is compatible with your cabinet

Check the power supply level. It must be matching. This topic deserves an individual article honestly, so better consult with an experienced guy from your local music store, before you get a speaker.

This was it for this article. Thank you for reading and good luck!
