Before we actually get started, let me quickly explain where this list comes from and how the models were chosen:

  • My own experience

I spent more than a decade playing the guitar. There were lots of cabinets in my life, so I know much about the manufacturers and their products. The first thing I did while preparing to write this article was making the list of all the cabs I had. Then I chose the manufacturers, which provided the best experience and proceeded to step two.

  • Checking the manufacturers

I checked the latest models by my favorite manufacturers, and their most popular products. I made sure not to choose super expensive equipment. I also skipped the cheapest cabinets. My main purpose was to find the cabs, which would provide the most quality for reasonable price.

  • Checking the online shops

Finally, I made sure that all cabinets are available online. I also looked through the reviews. This was a surprisingly cognitive process, as I got the other`s people point of view, which somewhere differed from mine. In general, though, my own experience was similar to what guys in internet experienced.

So, here are my final choices.

Marshall MX Series MX212

Marshall is a British company founded in 1967. It manufactures different sound equipment, but mainly specializes on cabinetlifiers, speakers and cabinets.

Main Features

The sound produced by this speaker is really loud. This will be a nice purchase for small and medium performances. It can easily handle the audience of more than a hundred people, so there is a lot of potential.

MX212 is not only loud, but has rather clean tones as well. There are no problems neither with highs, nor with lows, and the mids are traditionally balanced. So, the hundreds of people will be able not to hear you only, but to hear you distinctly.

The durability of this cabinet is doubtful. It is completely made out of MDF, which can`t really withstand bad conditions. Nice conditions are required for storing this cabinet.

Tip:Another downside is the weight of this item. It is the second heaviest one in the list. Transporting this cabinet and carrying it around will be a bit problematic.

The Cabinet in Action

When it comes to testing sound through a playing session, I always try to be as picky as possible. So, this cabinet does have a little background noise, when it`s playing on the maximum volume. All the other things are working fine though.

Short Conclusion

This is a loud cabinet, it sounds quiet clear. No performance issues had been spotted at all. However, it requires a careful handling and still can brake. Cheapness of details balances this problem partly though.

Pros
Loudness
Clean Tones
Cons
Build quality
Weight

Orange PPC212

Orange Music Electronic Company is a British manufacturer of musical equipment. They have a lot of stuff, but their cabinets were always considered to be great ones.

Main Features

It`s a bright orange cabinet! I had never thought, that something as simple as color would make a big difference. Orange PPC212 is looking truly unique amongst all the other grey or black cabinetlifiers and rises the mood a lot.

But what rises the mood even more is the sound quality it provides. There is the full volume, the perfect balance, great purity and a lot of quality in general.

Tip:If you had a cheap cabinetlifier as your first and now are planning to get something better performing, this one is the nice pick.

Well, this is the biggest and the heaviest cabinet in the list. I, a grown man, had problems with carrying it around. Something makes me think, that young musicians should ask their friends to help with carrying Orange PPC212. Alternatively, there are some wheels for cabinets, check them out.

The Cabinet in Action

As picky as I am trying to be, I still failed to find something annoying in the sound. It is nice, sensitively responses to all types of changes, has the volume and the power. A professional device, as I`ve already mentioned.

Short Conclusion

If you`ve been saving money for upgrading your musical equipment, but don`t yet know what to buy, go for this cabinet. It will be twice the value, if you already have other Orange`s equipment. There are no problems with speakers and cabinets from the other manufacturers though.

Pros
Design
Professional sound
Cons
The size (and the weight)

Hughes & Kettner TubeMeister 212

Hughes and Kettner is a comparatively young German company (established in 1984). It makes some nice musical equipment. Tubemeister 212 for excabinetle.

Main Features

German engineers tried hard to make this cabinetlifier both durable and light. Their struggle payed off completely though, as the material choice was indeed perfect. The cabinet is not “afraid” of surrounding conditions and is easy to carry around.

When you turn it on though, it starts dropping hard. I didn`t notice anything specifically good or bad in this cabinet, unless I tried playing bass.

Tip:The thump is kicking right in the chest. Possibly the best choice for bassists.

The cabinet will not be working equally good with different types of equipment. It has a handle on the top, so placing another cabinet on it could become a problem. There are little rubber legs, compensating the size of the handle, but still not making this cabinet compatible with all types of equipment.

The Cabinet in Action

I was testing it by itself, so I had no problems with compatibility. In fact, I had no problems at all. The cabinet had been working fine during the whole session (around 40 minutes), no major problems, no inconveniences.

Short Conclusion

German guys know how to build qualitative equipment. They put some effort into creating TubeMeister, and they got the final product, they can be proud of. This is a good cabinetlifier, especially for the bass players.

Pros
Build quality
Powerful bass
Cons
Compatibility

BUGERA 1

There is a Germany giant company named Behringer. It was founded in 1989 and soon became large and started consuming smaller perspective companies. Bugera was one of these companies. They managed to save the brand name though.

Main Features

Value of this cabinet is incredibly high. It could have easily costed thirty per cent more and still be worth the money. The secret is that the developers barely payed attention to the design and fully concentrated on the inner parts.

Which leads us to the next advantage – the quality of sound. It is good, with no outstanding features worth mentioning, except maybe the loudness.

Tip:In comparison to other cabs in this list, this one sounds louder than average.

So, speaking of design. I`ve already mentioned, that developers didn`t pay too much attention to it. A cheap finish, small and thin protective corners, etc. All these small thigs combine, so that your final impression is ruined. Bugera 1 looks cheap.

Tip:It also can have some issues with sound. Sometimes the cabinet sounds worth, than you expect form it, but most of the time it is working fine.

The Cabinet in Action

Probably, I was lucky enough to dodge all the misfunctioning. Mine Bugera was working fine all the time. So, except being esthetically displeased a little, I had no other troubles.

Short Conclusion

If you want to get the most out of your money, Bugera 1 will help you do it. It provides outstanding value and decent sound quality. However, it cannot compete with the equipment of higher price quality.

Pros
The value
The loudness
Cons
Design
Muddy sound

HeadRush Guitar Cabinetlifier Cabinet

HeadRush is an American Company, that doesn`t work too hard on creating memorable names for their products. They do work hard on making actual products though, so their Guitar Cabinetlifier Cabinet is in the list.

Main Features

So, this cabinetlifier delivers 2000 WATT of power. This is enough for making the sound loud and providing the great volume. All the powerful insides are located inside a compact body, so you get the perfect combination of power and convenience.

Tip:Headrush`s cabinet has several ins, each with individual sound controller, individual EQ controller and a ground-lift switch. Therefore, you can plug in two pieces of equipment and adjust each one separately.

The only drawback I spotted was the bass. It sounds OK, but I`ve met more powerful cabinets. There is a couple of them in the list. I am not saying, that Headrush has directly bad bass, I am saying, that there are better options for bassists in this price range.

The Cabinet in Action

I really enjoyed the compactness of this cabinet. Everybody will be able to handle it. Aside from that, all the technical filling shows great performance, which, speaking shortly, I can call way above average.

Short Conclusion

If you are not a bass player, then this cabinetlifier is suitable for you. It meets all the basic requirements of the beginner and advanced player. The design of this cabinet is elegant and the size allows to transport it easily.

Pros
Power
Compatibility
Cons
Lack of bass power

ZT Cabinetlifiers Lunchbox

Lunchbox really looks like lunchbox. It even has the handle. Its` technical parameters are good as well, but nothing impressed me more than the design.

Main Features

First of all, this cabinet is adorable. This is not the most important feature of course. ZT Lunchbox was developed to be a comfortable top cabinet. It is made of light-weighed material, it has a convenient big handle, and it honestly feels exactly like a lunchbox.

One of the things that differs the cabinet from a picnic accessory is the amount of knobs it has. There are separate adjustments for input, for an output and several other controllers for extended regulation

Tip:I would like to draw a parallel here. This cabinet is like a smart car. It is adorable and convenient, but it will never go faster than 100 mph. So, don`t expect an outstanding performance from this item.

If you try to make it loud, despite all the recommendations it starts sounding dirty. That is a common problem among the budget cabinets, so I can`t say, that ZT Lunchbox is worse than the opponents because of this “feature”.

The Cabinet in Action

Honestly, I had more pleasure carrying it, that actually playing with it. It was my fault. This cabinet should not be used as a single one, it was created to pair a more powerful one.

Short Conclusion

You should get ZT Lunchbox, if you already have a powerful cabinet and need something to complement it. From this point of view, Lunchbox is the best possible choice you can find.

Pros
The design (obviously)
Wide adjustability
Cons
Lack of power
Dirty, when loud

Fender Super Cabinet SC112

We have Fender to finish this list. The company needs no introduction, but in case you didn`t know, Fender is the guy, who designed Stratocaster and Telecaster, guitars, which defined the whole rock`n`roll epoch.

Main Features

Good sound quality is a regular thing for each of the cabinets in this list. SC112 does have good quality as well, but I want to emphasize how distinctly it reproduces lows (below C2) and mids (C2 to C6).

Now the build quality. One of the things, that made Fender famous worldwide. This model is assembled in America from the details manufactured in America. I guess, you`ll not need to worry, that something will break during the first five years.

Originally I intended to write, that this cabinet simply lacks bass. That is what I felt after the first test. However, a friend of mine, who bought the amp and kindly allowed me to try it first called me a month later and said, that his SC112 started performing better. I visited him, and indeed, the bass started sounding better. I have never met this before, but I guess this item needed some time to warm up.

Tip:Even warmed-up though, it is not the most powerful cab in the World. There are louder versions for the same price.

The Cabinet in Action

There is the “Fender” feeling as I call it. It is the feeling you have every time you are using Fender`s production. You know that you are using the equipment of high quality, but still feel like something is missing. It`s my personal opinion though, from the professional point of view everything is superb.

Short Conclusion

Get it, if you are ready for long playing sessions and warming this thing up. If your main goal is to get loud sound (you have a metal band for example), go get some other cabinet.

Pros
Great mids and lows
Build quality
Cons
Lack of bass
A little lack of power

General Conclusion

So, you`ve just read the review on what I consider to be the best cabinets on the market. If you still feel confused, here are several general recommendations on choosing the cabinet:

  • Check the dimensions first

I wouldn`t even mention it, but I know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy… Just make you sure you have a place to store your equipment and a case to transport it.

  • Check the power requirements

Electrical bills were my personal problems. My group and I saved some money and bought some powerful equipment. We spent the next month practicing in my garage. Long story short, the electric bills were terrifying. So, I would strongly recommend to make some calculations and find out what using the cabinet will cost first.

  • Don`t save on a cabinet

This is not the type of equipment you need to get started. So, if you have decided to go to another level, make sure to save enough money for a decent accessory. As a last resort you can use budget models from this list.

Well, this was it for this article. Thank you for reading and good luck!
