Before buying one or more loudspeakers evaluate its size and the performance, if you want the best, you should choose a model that does not produce distortions even at high volume.
If you are a big fan of music you will need to listen to your favorite songs with a very high quality sound. And in all probability you will have a good hi-fi system that you are probably thinking of combining a pair of loudspeakers. Speakers are the fundamental component of an audio system since they give the true color to the sound that will be produced as a whole. Based on the choice of speakers, their timbre and their characteristics, in fact, all other choices can be defined. In other words, if you have to buy an audio system for your home, for your office, for your room, you have to start from the dynamic speakers as they are commonly defined.
There are various types of speakers, which are naturally differentiated by type, by the use of certain speaker configurations, by vocation with some musical genres or with cinematographic contents. Even before choosing the speakers you must first establish what content you will use them. The speakers designed for the movies have different characteristics than those devoted to listening to music and also at any time you have to consider the size of the environment in which you are going to insert them.
The loudspeakers are the vehicle through which the music comes out of the system and reaches our ears. They must therefore have a constructive quality and a care in the assembly of good (if not very good) level. This choice basically depends on the quality of your audio system, especially the amplifier, and your budget, because some speakers can have a very high price.
Typically, the structure of a good product of this type is made of wood, although on the market it is also possible to find aluminum or plastic models. The features and characteristics of the loudspeakers are probably at the top of the list of aspects to be taken into account when purchasing a sound box. The different type of cone combines a different ability to manage sounds. The woofers, for example, are responsible for bass management, mid-range midrange, and tweeters for highs.
On the market you can find boxes of various types and all the best brands of audio products offer every shape and size. It is important, therefore, to evaluate the environment in which you intend to place them, both to arrange them so that they have enough space to express themselves at best, and to determine whether it is better to buy a model to hang on the wall or floor.
The latter, for example, have rather bulky dimensions and a height greater than one meter, while the more compact ones, with a height between 25 and 50 centimeters, are more easily placed on a shelf or can be installed on the wall. Keep in mind that the sound, when it propagates in the air, interacts with any object it encounters and is modified. Make sure, therefore, that in front of the speakers there are no furniture that impedes the dissemination of music.
Floor-standing speakers and Bookshelf speakers
Floor-standing speakers are recommended especially for those who listen to stereo music or who prepare a multi-channel installation for films, but offer real advantages only to those who have a room large enough to accommodate them. They usually also require a more powerful amplifier than the more common bookshelf cases.
Bookshelf speakers are smaller than the floor ones, but no less powerful. They are the easiest to recommend because they are easier to insert into the environment, and the most obvious problems can be corrected in a very simple way. The only obvious problem that comes with the use of bookshelf speakers is the relatively low power of the bass, since the integrated speakers are usually smaller and the volume of the lower speaker. But for this there are subwoofers.
Probably the loudspeakers are one of the few products that need a trial before being purchased. By comparing exclusively high quality models, in fact, you will notice that they are able to reproduce the sound with very different nuances. If you have the chance, then, before refining the purchase ask the seller if there is an opportunity for a listening or a trial period, to see if the type of sound that they can produce is in tune with your tastes. If you already have experience with models of a particular brand, we recommend that you evaluate the purchase of another product of the same brand, so that you already know the quality and the sound range that is able to ensure.
If you have a limited budget and are looking for something good but inexpensive, we recommend that you direct your purchases to online sales. You can also find reviews and opinions of those who have already purchased certain items. You can compare the price and technical specifications of the wide selection of branded products available on the market.
JBL L830 3-Way High Performance 6-Inch Bookshelf Loudspeaker
These are three-way speakers with aluminum frames and magnetic shielding.
- They are characterized by 19 mm ultra-high-frequency Mylar-dome mounted in a bi-radial horn provides reproduction of frequencies up to 40 kHz.
- The usual high-frequency region takes on a 25 mm tweeter with a dome of pure titanium.
- 150 mm speaker with a polyplastic diffuser is responsible for low frequencies.
- The phase inverter is made using the Freeflow port technology; delivers great sound and makes sure you get the lowest amount of distortion.
- Convenient gold-plated terminals are designed to connect speakers using the Bi-Wiring system.
These speakers offer good sound even if the volume is very high without losing quality. It can be said that the speakers work in an emotional manner. It should be noted excellent, deep and resilient bass. They lose a bit in the low tones, something that does not matter because you can always improve with the inclusion of a subwoofer.
In fact, this acoustic property is expected from a company such as JBL. The cost makes it a good choice for those looking for speakers with a good quality-price ratio. Especially if you like to listen to rock compositions or other dynamic music and at home there is no place for floor-standing speakers, this model is ideal.
KEF LS50 Mini Monitor
For those looking for the highest quality but do not want to occupy excessive space with large floor-standing speakers, there are small bookshelf loudspeakers able to provide absolutely amazing performances for their small size. These remarkable acoustic capabilities are allowed by the use of particularly advanced technology, aimed at compressing a set of loudspeakers.
The most innovative and highly regarded KEF devices by both users and specialists are undoubtedly the small KEF LS50 bookshelf speakers. These loudspeakers are inspired by the legendary LS3/5a used as reference monitors for decades by professionals all over the world and still highly sought after by audiophiles.
One of the most appreciated producers of high performance bookshelf speakers is KEF. It is the famous British builder who was among the BBC’s main suppliers in the 1960s. To give an idea of the quality level of the KEF loudspeakers, it is interesting to remember that the founder, Raymond Cooke, in 1979 was even awarded with the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for his business and scientific merits.
The particular structure of the diffuser is the result of research and patents KEF aimed at producing an instrument able to concentrate maximum performance in a box of a few centimeters. The KEF researchers have achieved these results with very advanced design methods. Among these, the aid of finite element analysis (FEA) and the computerized study of fluid dynamics were fundamental.
The technology used for the construction of the two concentric speakers, tweeter and midbass, is the Uni-Q®. With the particular positioning of Tweeter and Midbass the LS50 are able to generate sounds with exceptional definition and speed in rapid variations without losing any detail of the soundstage. The tweeter is placed in the middle of the midwoofer for an optimal direction of the sound waves according to a concentric and monoaxial distribution.
The curved front panel is constructed of DMC (Dough Molding Compound), a polyester resin combined with glass fiber and calcium carbonate. The DMC was chosen for its mass and inert behavior with respect to sound waves. The rest of the structure is built in classic MDF. The model is strongly padded with sound-absorbing material to minimize any kind of resonance. The Uni-Q loudspeaker, which may seem at first glance to be a single component, is actually made up of a 25 mm central tweeter with an aluminum dome, and a 13 cm midbass with an aluminum and magnesium cone. This configuration serves to optimize the sound coupling between midbass and tweeter and to improve the dispersion of sound in the environment.
The end result of this technological and constructive refinement is an incredible quality of sound with an extraordinary dynamic. Even the low tones are very full-bodied for speakers of this size. The reproduction is crystal clear, perfectly defined and very reactive in the rapid variations of tone and volume.

Acoustic Audio AA5170 Home Theater 5.1 Bluetooth Speaker System 700W with Powered Sub
If you play often or cinema is your passion and you want to watch your favorite movies on your personal computer, then a 5.1 sound system is absolutely for you. It is the system that allows you to have a cinematic sound and to immerse yourself in the sound from your sofa at home.
As you can easily understand from the nomenclature, the 5.1 speakers are composed of five small satellites and a dedicated subwoofer that, in the vast majority of cases, contains amplifier, pre-amplifier, and digital decoder for the management of multi-channel audio formats. We can connect the audio source via the AUX input, through the integrated Bluetooth module. We find RCA stereo inputs, an auxiliary input to which eventually connect computers, MP3 player or other sources and a headphone output. The advantages are many: we have for example the possibility to control the soundbar sound directly through the remote control supplied with your sound system.
JBL Arena B15
Very interesting, among the low-end solutions, are the JBL Arena B15. They are characterized by a bass reflex case inside a black wooden frame and the presence of 140mm polycellulose woofer, as well as soft dom 25mm tweeter. They can be used for a stereo system and do not require a dedicated subwoofer. Every single case weighs 3.9 kilograms. The soft dom tweeter reproduces the high frequencies of the sound spectrum. These speakers offer good sound even if the volume is very high without losing quality. The cost makes it a good choice for those looking for speakers with a good quality-price ratio.
If you plan to buy a speaker system or speakers (or whatever you want to call the instruments that emit sounds from your stereo), always start with the amount of money you want and spend. Turn around a bit on the internet. Go to some store where you can listen to the speakers that are close to the price you have decided to spend. And based on your aesthetic taste, make your purchase. Good or bad, at the same price, technicalities, characteristics and capabilities to be verified are, roughly speaking, all the same. The price is the only fundamental thing. In fact, thanks to the technology available, you can spend any money.
How the Speakers work
Speakers usually have some features in common: they are often cheaper than a Hi-Fi system or a stereo system; they are also much smaller and all the necessary components are enclosed in the fewest possible products. If a complete system can have different elements, such as amplifier, pre-amplifier, equalizer, in addition to the actual speakers and all in separate peripherals speakers enclosures contain everything needed inside the speakers themselves, or at the limit inside subwoofer unit. If you prefer to play with your computer, then you need a 5.1-channel PC system, i.e. with five separate satellites and a dedicated subwoofer, while if you listen to music even a 2.0 system (without subwoofer) or 2.1 can be fine.
Each component plays an extremely important role and must be positioned in a suitable way to make the most of all the other components. In the case there are woofers, midrange and tweeters, as well as bass reflex ducts, connectors and invisible structures that all have a synergistic purpose: to offer the best sound performance.
The diffusers on sale often report the words 2 or 3 ways, where the number is naturally variable. The ways are the “portions” in which the speaker divides the sound between the various speakers, and the instrument that performs this task is called a crossover filter.
A speaker that has 3 speakers (woofer, midrange and tweeter) can still be two-way, with the woofer and midrange that share the same signal, but can also be three-way.
The woofer is bass speaker used to produce low and medium-low sounds, which are also the most difficult to drive. They consist of a cone (usually made of fabric, plastic, paper) connected to the outer circular part of the loudspeaker and internally to a coil connected to the internal magnet of the loudspeaker.
When the loudspeaker is connected to a source and to an amplifier, the electric signal passes from the coil which has the force to attract or push the magnet, thus moving the cone in a reflex manner. Like the case of a drum kit, the movement produces sound that, thanks to the conical shape, is diffused evenly in the air.
In the same speaker the midrange is usually smaller than the woofer, and its cone has a run (the space that can travel during the movement caused by the coil) lower. It is used to reproduce medium and medium-high tones and operation and materials are extremely similar to that of woofers.
The tweeter is a fundamental component even if in fact it is the smallest among those present in a speaker. Usually it looks like a small dome (made of textile or metallic materials) on the top of the box or placed in an intermediate position between two woofers and has the task of reproducing the highest signals of the sound message.
It is not a speaker and does not actively produce sound. Instead, it is a particular technique of construction of the box in which there is a connection that serves, in short, to convey the sounds generated posterior from the speaker in the front or back. The result is a fuller and fuller sound on the bass and mid-bass, without having to have a large speaker. To date, the vast majority of speakers use a bass-reflex box.
There are several considerations to do before you come across the choice of speakers. Some we have done before and we can enclose them in the type of content with which we will use them and the size of the surrounding environment.
